2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited Flat Tow Wiring Harness for Preventing Death Wobble

Question:

I just purchased a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited to flat tow behind my 2022 Fleetwood Bounder 35K. Do I need the Mopar: # 68321424AD - Flat Tow Wiring Harness or the Mopar: # 82216418AB - RV Towing Wiring Harness or both?

According to my contact at Roadmaster, you'll need the 68321424AD harness which you can obtain from your Jeep dealer. The harness will prevent the so called 'Death Wobble' from occurring when flat towing the vehicle.

To flat tow your Cherokee, you'll need a tow bar, base plates, taillight wiring, safety cables, a supplemental braking system and possibly a high/low adapter.

For a tow bar, I'd recommend the Blue Ox Ascent, part # BX4370 which includes the safety cables. For base plates, use # BX1138. To wire the vehicle so the taillights operate in conjunction with those of the motorhome, I'd recommend the # RM-152-98146-7. You'll also need the # RM-156-25 charge line kit to keep the battery topped off while you're towing.

For a supplemental braking system, the best system will depend ultimately on how long you're planning on keeping the vehicle. If you'll be keeping it for a year or three, a portable braking system like the Brake Buddy Select 3, part # HM39524 would make sense. You won't need to mess with the involved installation of a permanently mounted system, and you'll be able to easily move the braking system to a future vehicle.

If you'll be hanging on to the vehicle for more than 3 years, you might prefer the convenience of a permanently mounted system. If your motorhome has hydraulic brakes, the Demco Stay in Play DUO # SM99251 is what I'd recommend. For motorhomes with air brakes, I'd go with the Demco Air Force One, part # SM99243.

If the 21 inch installed height of the base plates has a height difference compared to the height of the receiver on the motorhome greater than 3 inches, you'll need a high/low adapter to get it within that range. I'll link to an article that explains how to measure to find which adapter you need, as well as to our selection of adapters.

I've also linked to installation videos for the products mentioned above.
