Troubleshooting SH Error on Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller

Question:

On my 5th wheel trailer, my emergency cable actuated safety cable will trigger all 4 brakes. However, if I hook up my prodigy 90855 brake controller, I get an S.H error signaling there is a short in the wire My problem is, there is no short in the trailer brake wires I replaced all of them in pursuit of this “short code” and my trailer brakes will lock up with the emergency brake actuator I tested the voltage of the blue brake controller wire when not hooked up to the trailer brakes, and it sends the brake signal as designed 3volts at rest, and 10-12 when engaged with the lever or with the foot brake pedal But when all is hooked up, I get that error code I am at a loss of how to resolve this, any ideas?

Although the S.H error on your # 90885 indicates a short, it is also possible this is due to a bad ground connection. Since it sounds like you replaced the wires/checked for shorts in the wire I would say this is the most likely problem. A bad ground can cause all kinds of errors and issues. Make sure your ground connections are secure on a clean, bare-metal surface.

If you only inspected and replaced the trailer wiring you also want to inspect your vehicle wiring. There may be a short on the vehicle side. You could also check your 7-way connection. Corrosion or debris may also be the culprit, clean as necessary.
