When installing the 7-way trailer connector and brake controller, you will need to make two connections at the battery. The accessory circuit from the 7-way will run from the 7-way at the rear of the vehicle to the engine compartment, making sure to avoid anything hot or moving like exhaust and suspension or steering components. The wire would connect to an inline 40 amp circuit breaker, and then connect to the positive battery terminal. The power wire for the brake controller would pass through the firewall and also connect to the positive battery terminal via a 30 amp circuit breaker.
If you use our # ETBC7 Brake Controller Installation Kit, the trailer connector, all wiring, hardware, circuit breakers and hardware is included.
The red wire from the controller would connect to the brake stoplight switch. The switch is located at the top of the brake pedal, and will have numerous wires exiting it. Use a circuit tester like part # 40376 to test each wire. The circuit you are looking for will only show current on it when the brake pedal is pressed. Once located, tap the red brake controller wire into the circuit.
I have linked you to an installation video showing a brake controller being installed using our # ETBC7 kit. The video shows a controller being installed on a Honda Odyssey, but the procedure for your Ridgeline would be very similar. I have also linked you to an FAQ article showing how the installation kit is used.
