Parts Needed For Towing a 7,000LB Travel Trailer With a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 No Factory Hitch
Question:
I am looking for a trailer hitch to pull a camper we recently purchased. I have a 2020 Silverado that did not come with a factory trailer hitch. There is a cross member under the truck and I have a chrome bumper. I want to make sure I order the correct trailer hitch that will pull my camper. 7k

For your 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C59UR. This receiver is rated for a trailer up to 10,000lbs with a maximum tongue weight of 1,000lbs. If you are using a weight distribution hitch capacity increases to 12,000lbs trailer weight and 1,200lbs tongue weight. Be sure to not exceed any ratings from Chevrolet on your Silverado. I have linked an installation video below so you can see the steps involved if you plan to install this yourself.
The 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975 will replace the dummy plug on the bumper of your Silverado. This will give you the 7-way connector that you need for your Silverado. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 will connect to the factory connector under your dash with the Pigtail # 3064-P. This will take care of all the electrical components you need for your camper.
I do recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET when pulling your camper. This system will help you to reduce sag and level your truck while towing. That will ensure that you do not have the light steering feel or reduced braking caused by rear end sag. It will also give you sway control to keep your trailer from being pushed around by strong winds while you are driving. This particular hitch is rated for a trailer up to 10,000lbs with a tongue weight of 600-1,000lbs.
You will need a 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 to install the 2-5/16" hitch ball that comes with the Equal-i-zer hitch.
