Hitch Ground Clearance For Trailer Hitch Receivers On a 2022 Subaru Outback

Question:

Hello. I'm looking for a hitch which provides maximum ground clearance. I see most of the hitches show the receiver protruding just below the bumper cover. Can you advise what the installed ground clearance is to the bottom of receiver for any of your bolt-on under-bumper-cover hitches? Thanks. Cheers.

While we do not measure for ground clearance on the receivers that we have installed on the 2022 and similar Subaru Outback's we have had in our shop, we do measure the receiver height which will give us an approximate ground clearance height.

On the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT73RR we measured the height of the inside top of the receiver to be 16" after installation. That will give you a ground clearance of approximately 13-1/2" to the bottom of the receiver.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C67JR we did not get a measurement for but since it does mount in the same location as the other receivers above I can safely say it will have approximately the same ground clearance.

For the most ground clearance possible when not towing or carrying a hitch mounted accessory the Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver With Towing Kit # 391SUOB20T is the best. The Stealth allows you to remove the ball mount or 2" receiver when you are not needing them, so you will then have the same ground clearance that you currently have. It fits all models besides the new Wilderness edition. This receiver also includes the wiring needed for a 4-way flat connector.
