2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 65 Inch Roof Rack Recommendation

Question:

I would like to get a set of rhinorack vortex crossbars with mounting legs for my wifes 2016 toyota land cruiser with crossbars from factory. I will be needing to run 2 sets of rhinorack adjustable katak j hooks that I already have. Fitment guide shows I need the 54 inch crossbars. Are there any installation issues with using a set of 65 inch crossbars? I want the j hooks to sit almost at the vehicles edge or at least over the factory rails. Do I need additional hardware for the rhinorack j hooks to attach directly to the crossbars without using the clamp style attachment that came with it?

Expert Reply:

The Rhino-Rack Vortex crossbars have a limited amount of space on the underside where the legs attach to the crossbars so if you're really wanting this roof rack system on the raised rails of your wife's 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser you need the roof rack with the 54" crossbars:

54" Vortex Aero Crossbars - # RRVA137B-2
SX Series Legs - # RRSX100

To utilize longer 65" crossbars I recommend going with the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG217. This is essentially the same thing just from a different company and with a little different design.

To mount your Rhino-Rack J-Style kayak carriers directly to the T-Slots on either the Vortex Aero or AirFlow2 crossbars you'll need the Crossbar Adapters # KC-FK8 (1 for each set). This is compatible with the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carriers S510, S511, and S512.
