Can I Mount 70-Inch JetStream Crossbars with a Hullavator and Cargo Box on My 2022 Subaru Outback?

Question:

Hi, Since Thule only offers the Wingbar EVO 127 for the 2022 Outback Wilderness, I need a longer bar. So I am thinking of the Yakima JetStream with Timberline towers, and either 60inch or 70inch length. I want to mount a Hullavator on one side and have a Thule Large box, so I am thinking the 70inch length would be best. The 2022 Wilderness is rated for ~700lbs so I dont think weight will be an option. What are your thoughts?

Technically, it is possible to do this on your 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness. However, the only concern with this setup is that the Yakima JetStream Crossbars - 70" # Y00427 are such long crossbars that extend past the feet on your vehicle. This may not only be illegal, it can be dangerous. We do not recommend doing this setup. I attached a video that shows just how far these crossbars protrude from a similar-sized vehicle.

If you were to mount the crossbars, the compatible feet would be the TimberLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails # Y33TR along with the Yakima Same-Key Lock Cores # Y07204.

As for the Thule Hullavator # TH898, you will be able to attach it to the bars or channels of the JetStreams. It also has enough room to operate. With the additional room on your crossbars, you have just under 41-1/2 inches of usable crossbar space left. For the cargo box, I recommend the Thule Force XT XL # TH6358B. The Force XT XL has an external width of 33-1/2 inches, so you will have enough space for the overhang of the inward cradles of the Hullavator. You also have enough length on your vehicle to fully open the trunk.

For the roof capacity, 700 pounds is more than enough capacity for adding a kayak and a cargo box as long as the items in the box are not significantly heavy. I recommend consulting with your owner's manual to make sure to fallow all guideline outlined. Also, you may want to reach out to local law enforcement to see if they have any laws about objects potentially going past the side-view mirrors.
