Can You Upgrade from Load Range C to Load Range D 205/75-14 Tires On a Trailer

Question:

Hello, Is it acceptable to use Load Range D tires on a trailer that calls for Load Range C tires? Is it acceptable to mix Load Range C and D tires on the same trailer? That would be Load C on one axle and Load D on the other. The trailer is a 7000 lb GVW travel trailer that came from the factory with ST205/75R-14, Load Range C tires. Please advise, Thank you, Paul

It's not acceptable to mix the load range of trailer tires on a trailer. It's also not really advised to upgrade the load range rating either as this will force you to increase pressure which will result in a rougher ride. The thing most people don't understand is that the total weight capacity of the trailer tires won't equal the GVWR of the trailer because there is still going to be 10-15% of the weight from the trailer carried on the vehicle via the tongue. For a quality 205/75-14 trailer tire option, I recommend the Provider ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # TR20514 which has a 81 mpg speed rating. It has a 1,760 lb per tire weight capacity.
