What Kayak Load Assist do You Recommend for 2 Kayaks on My 2021 Audi Q3?

Question:

Hi- I have a 2021 Audi Q3 with 50” Thule evo wing bar cross bars. What is the best option to allow me to solo load a 10ft 40 lb kayak most of the time and to occasionally transport a second kayak. I am considering one Hullavotor for solo plus a Thule aero for second kayak? Would that fit one flat and one vertical? Is there a cheaper load assist option that would work on these crossbars and and 2 aero racks?

I have a solution for you. The only concern about using a Thule Hullavator # TH898 on your WingBar Evo - 50" # TH711320 setup is the required crossbar length past the feet of your rack. In order for the Hullavator to function properly, you need to have at least 4 inches of additional length for the Hullavator to descend. I recommend measuring your crossbar setup past your feet to make sure you have enough length.

If you find that you do have enough crossbar length after your feet, you will be able to attach another kayak carrier on your crossbars. You will not be able to attach two different crossbar setups on your 2021 Audi Q3. For a great vertical/j-style kayak carrier, I recommend the Thule Hull-A-Port Aero Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - J-Style - Folding # TH849000. The Hull-a-Port takes up minimal crossbar space because it allows you to mount your other kayak in the j position. I went ahead and attached a video that shows you just how space-effective it is.

For a more economical option for a load assist carrier than the Hullavator, I recommend using the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier and TelosXL Load Assist w/ Tie-Downs - J-Style # MPG114MD-351XL with an additional DownLoader # MPG114MD for the second kayak. With this setup, you also get the east of using the TelosXL lift assist for both kayaks (instead of using the Hullavator for just a single kayak). Since both of these cradles mount the kayaks in the j-position, you will have enough room on your crossbars. With this setup, it come with all straps you need to attach your 2 kayaks.

As with all roof rack applications, I recommend consulting with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure your roof can handle the weight you wish to transport.
