Air Bags and Air Compressor to Fix Squatting when Towing w/ a 2022 Toyota Tacoma 4WD

Question:

Hi there- Looking for a bit of help on this one. I have a 22 Tacoma, TRD Sport 4x4 with a V6. I just bought a Taxa Mantis, which is about 3,000 lbs dry, and about 435 tongue weight. With propane on the front, the tongue weight is close to 500 pounds. All this is well within the limits for the truck, and I towed the Mantis home, about 700 miles and it handled fine, no issues, except it really squats my truck. My original thought was a WDH, but they seem like a hassle to hook up and unhook. If I let my parents borrow the trailer, I’m not sure they’d be able to figure out how to hook it up correctly. My second thought was airbags like the Ride Rite system. I think I’d be 100 for the airbags, but a lot of people seem to think they are wrong or dangerous in a situation like this, and that a WDH is a better option. What would your recommendation be? And what product would you suggest?

Thanks for all the information. Given your situation I would recommend going with an air bag suspension system for your 2022 Toyota Tacoma 4WD. This will address the squatting in your Tundra and you will be able to set up it so it is user friendly for your parents.

The best system for your truck is going to be the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs - Double Convoluted - Rear Axle item # F2407. These have a 5,000 lbs weight capacity. The air bags will reduce the strain on your rear suspension and fix your squatting problems. This will increase safety and also compensate for uneven loads. They level your Tundra from front to back and adjust independently for side-to-side leveling of off-center loads. They also improve steering and braking performance.

I also recommend the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System for Air Helper Springs - Remote - Bluetooth - EZ Mount item # AL74000EZ. Air Lift's premium, wireless, onboard compressor system with Bluetooth allows you to fill your air springs at the touch of a button. The WirelessAIR also automatically maintains pre-set air pressure levels. This feature will come in handy when other people are using your Tundra. The compressor lets you adjust your two air springs independently with the wireless remote control. This allows you to level your vehicle front to back. It also allows you to get side-to-side leveling of off-center loads by inflating each spring with a different amount of air.
