Truck Brake Lights Randomly Come On with Valley Journey Brake Controller Installed
Question:
I have a 52740 brake controller on a 2004 Ford F-150. Occasionally, usually during the night when parked in the driveway, the brake lights on the pickup will come on when no one is around. They may stay on a few minutes or an hour. What would cause this when no one is even near the truck?

I have a few theories as to what might be going on. First, if this occurs when a trailer is connected to the truck, try disconnecting the trailer. It may be be sensing the trailer or think there is movement and try to interact accordingly. If it happens without a trailer connected then unplug the controller from the vehicle if you can.
You can also try cleaning the contacts inside the controller by fully applying the manual override and then letting it snap back into place. Do this several times to clean the contacts inside the controller. Dirty contacts could be making the controller think a braking even is occurring.
I have included a link to an FAQ on troubleshooting brake controllers for you to view.
