Disc Brake Conversion Parts For 10,000 lb Dexter Axle Made Before 2009

Question:

I have a trailer with dexter axle P-15, Model SLR, D100G, SN D 4304908. I would like to convert is over to a disc brake setup. Do you have kit that contains everything needed? They are 10K axles with oil bath hubs. It is a Kauffman Trailer built in 1999. I want to replace my hub seal and clear oil caps. Would you be able to give me the part #'s for those as well? Thanks

Thank you so much for that information, and we can get you everything you need to convert to a disc brake set up for your 10k Dexter axles. While there isn't a single kit, we do have all of the parts you need, and let's start with the brake kit itself:

- Kodiak Disc Brakes - 11" Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - Raw Finish - Leaf Spring - 10K Dexter and Lippert # K2R1058D11

This kit is designed to fit your 10k Dexter axles from pre-2009, which is why the year is important, and has all the parts you need for the brakes. Then you'd need an electric-over-hydraulic brake actuator, and the right kit will depend on if you are switching from electric drum or hydraulic drum brakes, because if you have electric drum brakes you already have the 7-way and breakaway battery needed. Otherwise, there is a kit with those parts:

Switching From Electric Drum Brakes
- HydraStar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HS381-8067

Switching From Hydraulic Drum Brakes
- HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator w/ Breakaway and 7-Way RV Harness # HS381-9067

Finally, the other thing you will need are brake links (no matter if you are switching from hydraulic or electric), and for that you will need the HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Tandem Axle # HS496-252.

Converting to an electric-over-hydraulic system is a really smart idea because hydraulic brakes have better stopping power than electric brakes, but electric brakes have better responsiveness, so this way you get the best of both worlds, and optimal braking for your trailer.

As for the oil cap and seal, we do have that as well; what you will need is Unitized Oil Seal # 10-51 and Replacement Oil Cap Kit # RG04-270.
