Troubleshooting Brakes Not Engaging on Valley Odyssey Brake Controller

Question:

Hi there,I have a valley odyssey brake controller, the problem I am having is when the brake is depressed on my truck the brakes will not engage, but when the manual override is pulled the brakes work great,I have cleaned the 7 pin connector and tested to make sure I have power on the blue wire out of the back of the controller. When the override is pulled I have a bright light on the tester, with the brake depressed I get a gradual very dim light like there’s not enough voltage coming out of the controller or something.Any help is greatly appreciated.Thank you.

When using a circuit tester like the # PTW2993, you won't get a reading, or at least not a correct reading, when the brake is depressed while parked. From what I have found, the Valley Odyssey brake controller is a proportional controller. A proportional brake control applies the brakes based on the deceleration of the tow vehicle, so it will not work while you are parked. The manual override will always work.

Although I do not have access to more information on the Valley Odyssey brake controller since we do not carry it, I recommend double checking the connections to make sure they are secure. It is also possible the blue wire is damaged and needs to be repaired or replaced with something like the # 10-1-1.

I have attached a helpful article on troubleshooting brake controller installations as well as a link to all of our brake controllers should you need a replacement. If you let me know what vehicle you have I would be happy to make a recommendation and let you know if a custom wiring harness is available.
