Best Curt Hitch for a 2021 Mazda CX-5

You are correct that there are 2 choices for a Curt hitch for your 2021 Mazda CX-5. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12170 and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13315 are both made in the USA and feature a bolt-on, no-drill installation. The difference comes from the Class of hitch. The # C12170 is a Class II hitch that features a 1-1/4" receiver opening. While the # C13315 is a Class III hitch that features a 2" receiver opening which is the most common size used for hitch mounted accessories such as bike racks, cargo carriers and ball mounts. The Class III will also have slightly more weight capacity, but you will want to check your owners manual to ensure you do not exceed the weight limit recomended for your 2021 Mazda CX-5.

I recommend you go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13315 because it is going to provide you with more versatility. You can use 1-1/4" accessories in a 2" hitch, but you cannot use 2" hitch accessories is the 1-1/4" hitch.
