Weight Distribution Adjustments for a 2005 Nissan Titan with a 2 inch Lift to Reduce Front End Sway

Question:

I have a Nissan Titan 2005 crew cab. It is equipped with a 2 inch rigid leveling kit on front, and larger tires. I had the e2 hitch stabilizer system installed but have a lot of front end sway. What is the fix for the problem?

In order to reduce the amount of front end sway that you are experiencing with your 2005 Nissan Titan you might need to shift the cargo within the trailer if possible. If that is not possible or it does not resolve the issue then you might want to make adjustments to the weight distribution system to apply more of the tongue weight to the front axles.

I would advise shifting the cargo in your trailer first. If possible shift the heavier cargo to the front of the trailer ahead of the trailer axles. This is especially helpful when using a weight distribution system. Also, make sure that the cargo in your trailer is relatively evenly distributed left to right.

If you have shifted the cargo weight and you are still experiencing front end sway then you might want to make adjustments to the weight distribution system.

The Fastway e2 weight distribution system is rated for 10,000 pounds of gross towing weight and 1,000 pounds tongue weight. According to my research this is an appropriate system for the towing capacity of your Nissan Titan. Please keep in mind cargo that is carried behind the rear axle of your truck is considered tongue weight, and should be accounted for when calculating the tongue weight of your towing system. I have included a link to a helpful article that explains the tongue weight calculations as well as the components of a weight distribution system.

To adjust your weight distribution system to apply more force to the front axle you may need to adjust the height of the ball mount, the angle of the ball mount, and the height of the spring bars.

Since your truck is equipped with a 2 inch rigid lift in the front as well as larger tires, you will need to measure the ride height the truck and make adjustments to the ball mount height. This will allow the trailer to be towed in a level position. I have included a helpful article that explains measuring for the appropriate ball mount riser or drop for your reference.

Additionally adjusting the angle of the weight distribution head will help reduce front end sway. Using the included washers you will want to angle the head so that it is tilting down and away from the truck. Please note that a maximum of 7 spacer washers can be used. Further adjustments can be made to the springs arms to modify the adjustment of the weight distribution head.

The last step in adjusting the weight distribution set up to reduce the front end sway is to adjust the height of the spring bars. For the e2 weight distribution system this is done by adjusting the brackets that mount the spring bars to the trailer. There are several height adjustments available on the mounting plates for these spring bars, it is recommended to make these adjustments one mounting hole location at a time. When making these adjustments you may notice a pronounced bend in the spring arms. This is normal, and indicates that an appropriate amount of weight is being transferred with the weight distribution system.

I have included a link to the instructions for the e2 weight distribution system that you mentioned above, as well as a few helpful articles for your reference.
