Why Is The Convert-A-Ball 5th Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter Not Recommended For Factory Tow Package
Question:
I have a 2018 Ram 3500 Mega cab with a factory installed tow package. I have the gooseneck ball with the T latch on top for installation and removal. Why is this gooseneck adapter not recommended for this type of ball??

The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset - 12" to 16" Tall, part # CAB-C5GX1216, is not recommended for tow packages that use the hitch ball with the integrated locking lever.
The reason does not have anything to do with function. , is not compatible with the gooseneck ball that comes with the factory tow package because of the T latch on the ball mount. It wears quickly due to the position of the latch itself.
Another reason we do not recommend this gooseneck adapter for use with factory tow packages is because the safety chains need to be attached next to the hitch, so you need longer safety chains. In addition, traditional safety chain hooks are not compatible with these safety loops.
We do have some different options that are compatible with your gooseneck ball. If you gooseneck ball is recessed you can go with the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter for Recessed Ball - Single Jaw - 21,000 lbs, part # DM8550046. If your gooseneck ball is raised you can go with the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter - Single Jaw - 21,000 lbs, part # DM8550045.
I have included product description links and video demo links below.
