Fastway e2 Replacement Bars for New Trailer and Higher Tongue Weight

Question:

I have a Fastway e2 WDH with 600 lb tongue weight round bars from my old trailer. I just purchased a larger trailer that has a dry tongue weight of 620 lbs. It holds 60 gallons of fresh water in the very front of the trailer as well as the big storage compartment is there also. I know its getting heavy in the tongue area. I know I need to upgrade. I also travel with quite a bit of stuff in the bed of the truck. I am sure I am pushing the 800lb limit real hard for the next size up. But I know or doubt my trailer will be over 8000lbs. gross total. My question is should I pay more attention to the tongue weight and go to 1000 lbs. round bars even though my trailer is never going to be over the 8000lb gross weight or go with 800lb bars? Thanks

I would focus more on the tongue weight when choosing the correct weight distribution system. In your situation I think you can move around the load in both your truck and your trailer to stay below the 800 lbs number so you can upgrade your spring bars to the Replacement Round Spring Bar for Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Systems - 800 lbs TW item # FA94-02-0899. I recommend not filling your tank up to capacity until you get close to where you are going. That 500 lbs of water is an easy way to lower your tongue weight. This would allow you to continue to use your Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW item # FA94-00-0600.

If you do decide to upgrade to a higher tongue weight weight distribution hitch, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution w/ 4-Point Sway Control - No Shank - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW item # EQ37121ET. With this system you will be able to reuse your current shank as it is the same one used in the E2 system.
