Recommended Trailer Wiring and Brake Controller for a 2022 Toyota Highlander No Factory Tow Package

Question:

I don't have the factory tow package on my 2022 Toyota Highlander and I'm looking to add some wiring. Do you have a recommendation for one over the other? What if I need to tow a trailer with brakes?

Thank you for the details! Since it sounds like you're planning on towing a trailer with brakes you'll want a full wiring setup which we have with the Tekonsha Kit # TK57VR. This tees into your factory connector for the basic lighting functions and then you will need to route and connect some additional wiring to complete the installation. You can mount this next to your receiver for easy access with the Bracket # 18140.

This wiring kit comes with a 7-Way so I recommend unplugging that from the US Car Connection and using the Hopkins Connector Socket # HM40975 because it comes with both 4-Way and 7-Way sockets for different trailer towing applications.

If you don't already have a brake controller then I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy iD # TK49VR because it can be installed in almost any location and since it's smaller you don't have to worry about it taking up much room in your cab.

If you don't already have a ball mount then the kit # C45534 would be a great option for you as it comes with everything else you'll need.

I'm attaching some videos and links to some helpful articles on towing for you to check out.
