What Trailer Wiring Harnesses do I Need for My 2022 Ford Explorer without a Tow Package?
Question:
what trailer wiring do you recommend for my 2022 Ford Explorer without a factory tow package?

Expert Reply:
For the correct trailer wiring you need for your 2022 Ford Explorer without a factory tow package, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118599. With the T-One harness, you will receive brake light, turn signal, and running light functions on your trailer. If you intend on installing a brake controller to your trailer, you will need additional wiring components in addition to the T-One.
For the controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 or the Curt Echo # C51180. Both of these controllers are proportional controllers which means that the controller activates the trailer brakes depending on your tow vehicle's braking action. The Voyager is more of a traditional-style controller than requires mounting into the dashboard of your vehicle near the steering wheel. If you plan on using the voyager, you will need the # 20127 in addition to the # ETBC7. On the other hand, the Curt Echo allows you to control the settings of your controller with the ease of your Smart device. If you intend on using the Echo, you will need the harness # ETBC7L.
