Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/ Air Distribution Box for Boat Cabin

Question:

I have a boat with a 7X7x6.5 h cabin that was built with fiberglass over foam. I am looking for a roof top A/C system, to be powered by a Honda suitcase generator-also mounted on the roof. I believe the foam is 2” thick. This is not a sleeping cabin. 1 Is the 13,500 btu your smallest roof top A/C? 2 what capacity Kw generator will the 13,500 require? 3 how far below the cabin ceiling will the bottom part of the assembly extend? 4 Any particular concerns or recommendations that you have for me?

Yes, a 13,500 btu will be the smallest rated AC available. The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner w/ Air Distribution Box, # ACM135C has a start capacitor with this 13,500 btu option AC. This feature is specifically for the purpose of helping to start when being operated off a generator. Many people successfully operate this unit using a 2,000 watt inverter generator. I suggest not trying too operate off anything smaller. This comes with an air distribution box that has a built-in thermostat. It is designed to fit roofs 2-1/2" to 5" thick using an opening of 14-1/4" long x 14-1/4" wide. My concern for your application the roof structure being able to support the weight. Once installed, this will add almost 100 lbs. focused on that opening. The Air Distribution Box will set down about 3-1/2" from the ceiling.
