Flat Towing Equipment Recommendations For A 2021 Wrangler Unlimited 4Xe Rubicon

Question:

Looking for the best set up to self install to flat tow the 4Xe hybrid with factory non steel bumper on the Rubicon. Not sure if it has different set up than the non hybrid Rubicon. Like the idea of the no cross bar=less weight since the 4Xe is already heavier than the non hybrid. Looking for all the components needed, i.e. tow bar, base plate, wiring... Thank you

To flat tow your 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4Xe Rubicon Hybrid you will need a tow bar, base plate, tow bar wiring kit, braking system, and safety cables. I have the following recommendations for you listed below:

Tow Bar: Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar w/ LED Lights - RV Mount - 8K # RM-676. This tow bar features non-binding latches and a large hookup radius to make connecting/disconnecting from your vehicle on any terrain a breeze. It has integrated LED lights to make it easy to hookup or disconnect in the dark. It also includes safety cables as well as a 6-way to 7-way adapter cable and connection port so you won't have to purchase these separately. It has an 8k weight capacity so you can rest assured that the weight of your Jeep isn't precariously attached to your motorhome and will have a buffer to use your Jeep as some extra storage while on the road.

Base Plate: I also do prefer the direct-connect style hookup for the ease of connecting/disconnecting from the tow bar. For your factory non-steel bumper I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521453-5. The arms are also removable to provide a nice clean look when you aren't towing your Jeep.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Since the tow bar is going to provide you with the adapter cable and connection port you'll only need the wiring and diodes which you'll get with the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152. This diode kit allows you to use your vehicle's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV.

If your Jeep has ParkSense Proximity Sensors then you will need the Roadmaster Wiring Kit with Smart Diodes for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights # RM47ZR instead.

Braking System: If you have hydraulic brakes I recommend the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700. This system offers automatic, real-time braking in your towed Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the InvisiBrake. Actuator box installs permanently so that you never have to remove, adjust or reactivate. System connects to RV and engages car brakes when the RV brake lights illuminate.

You will need to install the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751490 as well to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

For air brakes I recommend the Roadmaster BrakeMaster System w BrakeAway for RVs w Air or Air Over Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional # RM-9160. This will also require the # RM-751490 as well as the RoadMaster BrakeMaster Custom Seat Adapter # RM69FR to mount the system to your seat.

Safety Cables: Since the tow bar already has these you won't need to purchase any separately.

You may also require a high/low adapter to keep your tow bar level while towing your Jeep. This will require some measuring so I've attached our help guide article to walk you through the process of determining the correct rise/drop needed.
