For a hitch for your 2021 Jeep Cherokee for towing a camper trailer, I recommend the etrailer Hitch # e73ZR. The etrailer hitch comes with all mounting hardware required for a bolt-on installation. As far as weight capacity, it has the highest we offer:
a 675 pound maximum tongue weight and a 4,500 pound gross towing rating. In order to confirm whether your vehicle can accommodate this much weight, I recommend confirming your vehicle's weight capacity with you owner's manual
. In addition to the hitch, you will need a ball mount and ball like what is included in the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 2-3/4" Rise or 4" Drop # 989892.
As far as wiring, in order to install a 7-way harness, you first need to have a 4-way installed on your Cherokee. If you do not have one installed, you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56046. The T-One includes a ModuLite power converter to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer. Once you have the 4-way installed, you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7 in addition to the T-One.
To add a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 or the Curt Echo # C51180. Both of these controllers are proportional controllers which means that the controller activates the trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. The Voyager is more of a traditional-style controller than requires mounting into the dashboard of your vehicle near the steering wheel. Also, with the Voyager, you have the option of using the plug-in harness # 20127. On the other hand, the Curt Echo allows you to control the settings of your controller with the ease of your Smart device.
If you need help installing any of these accessories, I went ahead and linked walk-through videos to guide you through the process.
