Swapping Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller from 2005 Chevy Suburban to 2012 Ford Expedition EL
Question:
I currently have a Voyager brake controller installed in my 2005 Chevy Suburban. I am getting a used 2012 Ford Expedition EL and would like to use the Voyager controller in the Expedition for an upcoming trip. Is the wiring harness for the two vehicles the same? If they are not the same, can I purchase a pigtail that has the correct plug ends to simply plug and play? All help is appreciated! Thanks.- Jared

The Suburban and the Expedition will indeed use different pigtails or wiring adapters.
For your 2012 Expedition, you would need the # 3035-P wiring adapter if the Expedition is equipped with the trailer tow package including the 7-way trailer connector at the rear bumper.
If you do not have the factory 7-way, the controller would need to be hardwired using the universal pigtail, part # 20127 and the brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7. The ETBC7 install kit includes everything necessary to install a brake controller on your vehicle, but for your EL model, I would recommend an extra 10 feet of wire, which you can get with part # 10-2-1.
I have linked you to an FAQ article that describes how the install kit is used, as well as an install video showing the ETBC7 kit being installed on a similar vehicle and a video showing the # 3035-P being installed.
