If you are just looking to mount accessories like a bike rack or cargo carrier on a hitch receiver installed on your 2017 Porsche Mecan, you do not need any additional wiring unless you are planning to install a tail light kit like the Peterson Magnetic Tow Lights- 4-Way Flat Connector # PE26UR. If you are planning to use this type of tail light kit or are planning to tow a light utility trailer, you will need the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT. This will give you basic tail light functionality (brake lights, running lights, and turn signals).

However, if you are planning to tow a heavier trailer, you will need the 7-way wiring harness as well. That is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This wiring is required for brake controller functionality in addition to the tail lights.

To add a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 or the Curt Echo # C51180. Both of these controllers are proportional controllers which means that the controller activates the trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. The Voyager is more of a traditional-style controller than requires mounting into the dashboard of your vehicle near the steering wheel. On the other hand, the Curt Echo allows you to control the settings of your controller with the ease of your Smart device.

For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt Hitch - 2" # C13136. This is a great hitch because it is made in the U.S.A. and only takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes to install.

As with all towing applications and hitch receivers, it is always important to confirm with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure you have enough weight capacity on your vehicle in order to tow a trailer.
