Do The Clearance Lights Need To Be Powered To Power The VueSMART RV Backup Camera
Question:
My clearance lights generally only turn on when the tow vehicle lights automatically turn on at dusk. Am I thinking right that my headlights need to be on for this camera to work? Or am I thinking incorrectly. Thank you. BTW all this assumes I am wiring into a clearance light

Yes, for the VueSMART RV and Trailer Backup Camera - Wireless - Universal Mount - 152-Degree View # HM34FR to receive power the light it's tied into will need to have power running to it. So if you tie it into running lights the tow vehicle would need to have it's lights on to also send power to the running lights on your trailer thus powering the camera. Same thing if you tied the camera into the reverse lights. Most people do prefer to tie into the running lights instead of the reverse lights for the added observation ability instead of only being able to use the camera when backing up.
