Will Adding Cargo to Rear of 2018 Nissan Rogue Obscure Backup Camera

Question:

I want to install a Yakima Backswing on my 2018 Nissan Rogue for the purpose of having hitch storage while maintaining full access to the tailgate. Im worried about obscuring the rear camera. Is it possible to make this system work? Are there any recommended solutions or products?

Installing pretty much anything in the hitch on your 2018 Nissan Rogue (or any vehicle with a backup camera for that matter) will obscure the camera to a certain extent. Depending on the cargo you may be able to retain more visibility, but it's just not always possible.

If you plan on using the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483 then it would be good to use a stationary cargo carrier like the Reese # 63153 so that everything sits a bit more solid in the hitch receiver.

You may also consider looking into the Yakima EXO Swing Away Cargo Carrier # Y72VR which uses a base similar to the BackSwing, but it's a modular setup so you can eventually add another level with the TopShelf # Y94VR (which would definitely obscure the camera) and then you can use another cargo carrier or even a bike rack with the Yakima system. Another plus for the Yakima EXO system is that they have their light and license plate relocation kit # Y74VR which helps you stay street legal when your Rogue is equipped with a 4-Way wiring harness like part # 118480.

I'm attaching some review videos for you to check out and get a good feel for these different products. I personally really like the Yakima EXO system especially if you plan on using it a lot, but it is a specialized system so price does play a factor as well.
