Differences Between Detail K2 and Detail K2 Elite Snow Plows For a 2003 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
Hi - For my vehicle 2003 4-wheel drive Tacoma I see the snow blade Detail K2 or the Detail K2 Elite as options. It looks like the only difference between the two is that the Elite has an electronic actuator instead of a winch. Is that the only difference? Is the electronic actuator better? Also, I have to hook up to the truck battery right? Thats what drives the actuator or winch?

Yes, the difference between the Detail K2 Snowplow # K2AVAL8422 and Detail K2 Elite Snowplow # K2AVAL8422ELT is the Elite has the electric actuator over the winch. The Elite also uses a chain connection to the blade while the basic K2 has a strap that is more likely to become damaged. The electric actuator is superior to the winch. It operates faster, smoother and it has a built in clutch that will protect against damage that a winch would cause. The actuator won't be able to lift the blade to high like the winch which can lead to damage on the blades frame.
You will need to connect the electrical to your truck battery to operate either snow plow as that is where it gets power for the winch or actuator. The wiring is all included and there is a weather tight electrical connector that allows you to easily disconnect the power to the plow.
Both these will connect to your 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4wd with a Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # C31013 which will allow you to also use it for winches, bike racks and other hitch mounted accessories when you are not using the plow throughout the year.
Be sure to get a Halogen High/Low Beam Light Kit with Turn Signals # K281488LB2 for mounting to the K2 plow. And I highly recommend using the Timbren Front Suspension Enhancement System # TTOFTUN4 when you use your plow. These are specifically designed for use with snow plows and will help prevent your front end from sagging and provide additional stability when you have the plow attached. You can remove these during the warmer months if the ride is to stiff when you don't have the plow attached.
