What Wiring do I Need for Brake Functionality for My Trailer Towed by a 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser?

Question:

I am trying to convert a 4 way straight plug to a 7 blade male on my 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Also, the travel trailer has brakes- what do I need for my travel trailer brakes to work when I press the brake on my suv?

In order to convert the 4-way plug to a 7-way on your 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser, you need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7. This kit will give you the braking functionality as well as the brake light, turn signal, and running light options on your vehicle.

The other thing you need for your trailer brakes to work is a brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 or the Curt Echo # C51180. Both of these controllers are proportional controllers which means that the controller activates the trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. The Voyager is more of a traditional-style controller than requires mounting into the dashboard of your vehicle near the steering wheel. On the other hand, the Curt Echo allows you to control the settings of your controller with the ease of your Smart device.

With these components, you will have all the parts you need for trailer braking. I went ahead and attached installation videos to walk you through the process of all of the parts.
