Will 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 Short Bed Need Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch

Question:

I have a2022 GMC Sierra 2500, and want to use the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch in the factory pucks my truck's equipped with. My truck is a short bed, and I don't know whether or not I need a sliding hitch.

B&W offers both a sliding version, part # BWRVK3775 and a stationary version # BWRVK3710 of their excellent Companion 5th wheel hitch.

We typically recommend going with a sliding 5th wheel hitch on any truck with a bed shorter than 8 feet in length, to prevent the corners of the 5th wheel from striking the rear of the truck cab during turns. There are a few exceptions, though:

• If your truck uses a rotating pin box such as the Reese Revolution/Sidewinder or Lippert Turning Point, these
rotating pin boxes will provide enough clearance so that a sliding hitch isn't needed.

• If the front corners of your 5th wheel are dished in or concave, and the 5th wheel manufacturer states that the
corners are dished in enough to provide proper clearance, then you won't need a slider.

If the above two conditions aren't met, you'll need the sliding hitch.

If you don't already have a 7-way trailer connector installed in your truck bed, you can install one using part # C56000.

I've linked to demonstration videos for the B&W Companion Hitches and the 7-way trailer connector and harness mentioned above.
