Connecting the Redarc The Manager30 # RED93FR to My Jayco 212QB

Question:

I put a deposit on a 2022 Jayco 212QB on a Wednesday and am looking to install the Redarc Manager 30. The trailer has no solar yet but does have a roof prep. I am researching a details list of what I need to get his going. Specifically, I would like to know if this unit be safely connected to shore power and solar, and bypass the connection to the tow vehicle battery? Besides the cost of the Andersen plugs and wire, I am not sure this truck is going to comfortably tow the trailer. I don’t want to install the truck wiring and then turnaround and have to get rid of it. I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic with a 6-cylinder. It does have the 7 blade plug.

I spoke to my contact at Redarc and they said that the Redarc The Manager30 # RED93FR can work in a trailer when not attached to the vehicle. The shore-power will go through the charge and convert to DC power to charge the batteries. The solar will do the same. The solar and shore-power can be hooked up at the same time. The Manager30 will draw from the solar panels before taking shore-power.

Your 2019 Ram 1500 Classic 6 cylinder may have issues towing your Jayco trailer. My research found that the Ram 1500 Classic looks to have a maximum towing capacity of 8,040 lbs. depending on the model, while the Jayco 212QB has a GVWR of 5,500 lbs. You will want to consult your owner's manual to confirm the towing capacity for your exact model, though.

I have also attached some articles from our website about getting solar power set up on your 2022 Jayco 212QB and how to determine how much solar power you will actually need.
