No photo required, this is a common issue with boat trailers. For your sailboat trailer you will need to use a Pole-Tongue Adapter # EQ95-01-5950 that is designed to fit a straight tongue that is between 1" and 5" wide, with a vertical height between 2" and 5". This will allow you to use a Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System for your sailboat.
It is important to match the tongue weight of your sailboat trailer to the tongue weight of the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System. With the total weight being roughly 6,000lbs it sounds like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET is the correct one for you. This is designed for trailers with a tongue weight of 600-1,000lbs and a maximum trailer weight of 10,000lbs. If your sailboat does not fall into the 600-1,000lbs of tongue weight please let me know what the tongue weight is and I will recommend a system that will meet your tongue weight.
We do offer a etrailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044 if you are unsure of the tongue weight and need a way to measure it. This will measure the tongue weight up to 2,000lbs and will fit a 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" trailer coupler.
To install the 2-5/16" hitch ball on the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET you will need a 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216. You may also like the Sway Bracket Jackets # EQ95-01-5150 as they will cut down on the noise the hitch produces when you are maneuvering the trailer at the boat ramp.
