Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon X w/ Blue Ox Base Plate

Question:

Parts needed to flat tow 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon X with LED tail lights. Saw the parts suggested by you to a similar question, so we are good with the Blue Ox Base Plate 1134 and Blue Ox Alpha 2 units. What would you suggest for brake and wiring kits? Our new to us Jeep has what we belive to be aftermarket LED tail lights. Thanks!

You are off to a good start with the Blue Ox base plate and tow bar, and we can get your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon X set up with the rest of the parts you will need, which is the wiring, braking system, and a battery disconnect switch. I'll go ahead and list out the parts for you below to make it easy to order:

- Base Plate Kit: Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1134

- Tow Bar: Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7380

- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267

- Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766

- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # DM86VR

So the Blue Ox base plates will fit your '14 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon X, and the Alpha 2 tow bar is compatible with it and comes with the safety chains, so like you said, you're good there. Then for the wiring kit, the Roadmaster is compatible with LED lights, and is the best option because its diode system is designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback on you Jeep's wiring, which keeps its electrical system safe.

As for the braking system, the Demco is by far the best option, and the reason for that is it gives you braking proportional to that of your motorhome. So when you hit the brakes on your motorhome, your Jeep is going to get the same amount of braking power. This results in much smoother braking than most systems which send out a pre-set amount of braking power, giving you a more comfortable and easier-to-control ride when flat towing.

The only other thing I recommend considering is a rock guard to protect your Jeep from getting damaged as you are flat towing it, the Blue Ox KarGard Towed Vehicle Protector # BX8870.
