I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e75ZR as being the best receiver that we offer that will fit your 2021 Toyota Highlander. This receiver fits all models including hybrids and XSE trims. The matte black powder coat finish better matches with the undercoating and trim panel colors on the Highlander as well as being more durable and resistant to flaking in my experience. The 2" class III receiver is rated for a maximum tongue weight of 500lbs and a maximum trailer weight of 5,000lbs. Be sure to not exceed any ratings given by Toyota on your Highlander if they are lower.

You will want to also install a Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # TK99FR so that you have a 4-way flat connector. This connector will allow for you to tow most small trailers as well as use Auxiliary Lights # C53201 with any hitch mounted accessory such as a bike rack or Cargo carrier where the clear view of the tail lights on your Highlander are obstructed from the additional cargo. The Curt Easy Mount Bracket # C58001 is a great way to secure the 4-way wiring to the receiver collar so that you do not have to drill a mount into your bumper or leave the 4-way loose that may drag on the ground.
