Before you install a 7-way, you need to make sure that your 2022 Subaru Outback has a 4-way installed first. If you need a 4-way, I recommend the T-One 4-Way Wiring Harness # 118467. The T-One includes a ModuLite power converter to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer.
For a 7-way adapter for your 2022 Subaru Outback Wagon, you need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. With this installation kit, you will be able to send a signal to activate the brakes on the trailer.
As far as the brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 or the Curt Echo # C51180. Both of these controllers are proportional controllers which means that the controller activates the trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. The Voyager is more of a traditional-style controller than requires mounting into the dashboard of your vehicle near the steering wheel. On the other hand, the Curt Echo allows you to control the settings of your controller with the ease of your Smart device.
