Recommended Hitch Extension For A 3 Hitch On A 2021 Ford F-250

Question:

I have a 2021 F-250 with a 3inch receiver. I need to have a extension for use when I have tailgate down and camper installed. I only need to extend the hitch out about 17-20. I tow a vehicle trailer with a side-by-side and a pontoon boat trailer. What do you recommend?

The 3" hitches Ford is using are throwing everyone for a bit of a loop. With that being said, I do have a couple options for you to check out.

First will be the TorkLift Cannon Hitch Extension - 3" Ford Super Duty Factory Hitch # TLE1636. This will measure 32 inches long, so it is longer than you need, but it is also rated up to 3,600 pounds towing and 360 pounds of tongue weight. This jumps up to 7,200 pounds towing and 720 pounds of tongue weight when a weight distribution system is used as well. This will be the most heavy duty option we currently have available, and though it will be long, is the system I recommend.

With that being said, you can also put a few pieces together to make a shorter system. The Buyers Products 3" to 2" Receiver Tube Adapter # 337RTA302 can be used with the Brophy Hitch Extender with Step for 2" Trailer Hitches - 18" Long # ST18 and will get you a little over 21", but I highly recommend also using the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer for 3" Hitches # BLU85QR if you decide to go this way. This will be rated to 4,000 pounds towing and 400 pounds of tongue weight. This will also increase with weight distribution (6,500 pounds and 650 pounds respectively), but with all the adapters, I can't say that I recommend using one with this set up.
