To convert your trailer brakes from surge to electric over hydraulic you need to start by getting an electric over hydraulic actuator and a brake controller.

For an electric over hydraulic actuator I recommend the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator # HBA-10 for drum brakes, or if you have disc brakes the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator # HBA16.

Next, you will need a brake controller that is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes. A great choice is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195, this is easy to use and features a quick disconnect feature that allows you to remove when not in use.

The last thing you will want to do is locking out the coupler since the coupler will no longer need to be actuated, or replacing it with a standard coupler.

Once you have a solution for your coupler, you'll want to run a brake line that was previously going to the coupler to the electric over hydraulic actuator.
