Troubleshooting New Hopkins 7-way Trailer Connector Harness Wired Color to Color and Not Working
Question:
I bought a 7 way harness at farm and home. Hopkins pre-molded 6. It has White, Black, Yellow, purple, Green, Brown and Blue. My old original 2021 Hideout one had White, Black, Yellow, Red, Green Brown and Blue. I hooked them up all the same backed on color and obviously since there was no Red I used the purple in its place. One turn signal is the opposite side and the other turn signal runs both turn signals. I have brake lights and brakes but no running light all blink. is there a difference between the original harness with Red wire Vs. new plug with purple wire at the 7 pin that i cannot see? SAE vs RV standard. I figured if i just follow the colors all should be the same. Need some help. Thanks,

Sorry to hear about your wiring issues!
Colors on wiring harnesses are not always the same and as such you want to match the old to the new by function, not color as trailer wiring is not standardized by color.
Your new harness should have come with a wiring diagram that is used to make sure you match the functions correctly, but now that things are already apart what you will want to do is trace each wire from the trailer connector on your 2021 Hideout to where ever it goes to identify the functions of the factory wiring.
For lighting functions you can place the trailer side wire to the positive terminal of a 12v battery as that will turn on what ever is powered by that wire further helping to identify each wire function.
Once you have gone through and identified each function of your factory wiring you will need to match it to the wiring diagram for your specific harness. If you no longer have it just send me over the part number of your harness and I can look it up for you. Once you have everything wired correctly go ahead and use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to make sure all of the functions are now working as they should.
I included a link to a helpful article that goes over wiring functions and troubleshooting for you to take a look at.
