Timbrens or SumoSprings For Towing Light Trailer With 2018 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Im looking at adding helper springs to my 2018 Toyota 4Runner, TRD Premium with KDSS Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. Im tow a 17' camper trailer 3,000 pounds empty/4,000 pounds loaded and using a load stabilizing hitch. While the load stabilizing hitch keeps the 4Runner level, the factory suspension is significantly compressed. Im considering adding the Timbren 1800 pound helper springs to the front, but on the rear Im not sure if I should go with the Timbren 3,000 pound or the SumoSprings 1,800 pound rated springs. I would appreciate any thoughts you have.

Helpful Expert Reply:

For your 2018 Toyota 4Runner, between the 6,000 lb Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TTORSEQ and 1,800 lb SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS78DR, since your trailer is only 4,000 lbs you will not have a heavy tongue weight so I recommend the lighter capacity SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SS78DR.

The 1,800 lb rating for these is more than enough for a light 4,000 lb camper trailer, as the Timbrens would be overkill and can give a very stiff ride. The SumoSprings will do the same job without as stiff a ride to give your 4Runner the support it needs.
