Solution for Older 7-Way Plug Not Fitting Curt 7-Way

Question:

I recently received your Curt 7 way trailer connector Item # C58155 and installed it on my Highlander. It replaces a previous Curt connector. My trailer plug will not fit. It goes in as far as the contacts touching but no further. The contacts in the new connector appear to be straight and I checked them with calipers and the opposite contacts are all equidistant. My Tekonsa 7 way tester fits properly into the new Curt connector, but no amount of wiggling or fussing will get my trailer plug seated properly in the new Curt connector. My trailer is equipped with a 7 year-old Esco 7-way plug, the original manufacturers installation. Esco is in Elkart, Indiana so I assume it must be industry standard configuration and it worked fine with my previous Curt connector. What do you advise? Do I need a replacement for this item or will this particular product simply not work for me? If not what alternative do you advise?

Expert Reply:

It's probably best to replace the 7-way socket with a new one since the tester 7-way you have tried does. So for that I'd go with a standard plug like the part # A7WCB. This will plug right into your Curt connector # C58155.
