How is the Weight Rating for the JR Products Gas Shocks # 372-5300-30 Rated

Question:

I have a car that had a gas strut on each side of the trunk lid. They were very rusty which made it impossible to read any numbers off of them at all. There is a wheel that goes on top of the trunk lid. So, what I was able to do was to put a scale under the lip of the edge of the trunk and was able to determine that there is 60 pounds of force holding the trunk down with the tire on top of it... So, my question is Do I get two 60 pound struts for each side of the trunk lid or is it cumulative that 2- 60s would mean really 120 lbs. of force meaning I should only order two struts with only 30 lb.s of pressure each in order to lift the trunk in a normal fashion? Thank you. I will be waiting for your answer so I can order these correctly.

Each of these gas shocks are rated for use individually and not in pairs so the part # 372-5300-30 with it's 30 lbs rating would be how much it could lift by itself. So a pair of these would cover your 60 lb trunk lid.

Now with that said your easiest replacement solution would probably be to find a car parts shop that can order you in the exact shock you'd need.
