How to Test and Troubleshoot Trailer Running Lamp Circuit on 2017 Dodge Ram Truck
Question:
How can I check to see if the tail light wire on the tow plug is getting power my taillights on my truck work but not on the trailer. I have everything but taillights on the trailer when its hooked to the truck. Ive checked all the connections on my trailer my bulbs are good .

There are a couple of ways to do this, the easiest way would be to use a plug-in tester like # PK12741. Simply plug the tester in to the 7-way trailer connector on your truck and have a helper activate each taillight function while you observe the tester.
A circuit tester like part # PTW2993 could also be used. Turn on the running lights on the truck, ground the tester and touch the pin in the 11:00 position with the probe of the tester. If that pin doesn't show power, you likely have a blown tow package fuse. The 20A fuse is located in location F29 in the fuse block in the engine compartment near the battery. You'll want to replace the fuse if it's blown, but before plugging the trailer back in, you'll want to carefully examine the running lamp circuit on the trailer to find and repair the short that caused the fuse to blow, or you'll continually blow fuses.
I've linked to a demonstration video showing how the # PK12741 tester works, as well as to some wiring help articles that might be useful.
