Determining Which Hub and Drum Assemblies and Brake Parts Fit Trailer W/ Carson Axle
Question:
I have a 16 foot car trailer that has no brakes. I wish to install at least one axle of brakes. The only thing I can find on the axle is that it has a Carson sticker on it. The bolt pattern is 5x5 wheel. How do I figure the bearings to use with the drums.

To determine which hub and drum assemblies will work on your Carson axle you will need to remove one of your current hubs and find your bearing combination.
The easiest way is by looking for the bearing number stamped in the face of both the inner and outer bearing, but if the numbers are worn you will need to use digital calipers # PTW2993 to measure your spindle in the locations shown in the included diagram.
Next you will want to verify if your axle has a brake mounting flange installed right behind the hub as shown in the included picture.
If you can provide the above information I would be happy to make sure you get the correct components.
I included a link to a helpful article that goes over adding electric trailer brakes for you to take a look at.
