Brake Controller Will Not Power On on a 2004 Dodge Ram
Question:
Trying to install my brake controller on a 04 Dodge Ram. I see I must run this extra wire for the brake from the switch in the driver fender back the rear of the truck stated in your other answer, what I was wondering is would this cause my brake controller not to power up? I have 12v at the connector that goes into my Prodigy brake controller. Thank you

Expert Reply:
The wire located behind the drivers side wheel well will not have any effect on the power going to the brake controller. The purpose of that wire is to provide power to the trailer connector from the brake controller for the trailer brakes.
The brake controller should be receiving power from the black wire on the wiring adapter, # 3020-P. If you have 12 volt power on the black wire and the brake controller will not power on, then there could either be a poor ground connection on the truck or on the adapter or the brake controller could be bad.
To test this, you could cut the white wire on the adapter and use a length of 10 gauge wire, # 10-1-1, to run the ground wire to the negative post on your Rams battery.
I have attached an FAQ article on installing a brake controller on a Dodge Ram for you to check out.
