Solution For Stuck Gear On SCS Frigate Electric Steps

Question:

I have a 2005 chinook with scs/frigette electrico step. The motor is striped out I removed it but the gears are frozen solid. Trying to un bolt the gears. They won’t move in any direction. Sprayed with liquid wrench. Hex key doesn’t work. Can I use a pipe wrench to loosen. Don’t want to order parts until I can make the gears move.

It sounds like your Replacement Gear for Lippert Single and Double Electric Coach Step # LC301696 is stuck. This could be caused by something lodged in the gear somewhere, extreme corrosion, or just a bent/broken gear. I would try removing the gear which first requires removal of the entire step assembly. Once removed, you will want to verify if the gear has a tack weld in place (see photo). If so, this will have to be ground off prior to removal of the gear. There is also some Loctite on the gear bolt so you may need to apply a bit of force and/or heat in order to remove it.

For the motor, you would likely need Replacement Motor for Lippert Electric Coach Step # LC301695, but to verify you will want to give us the part number of your old motor.
