Recommended B&W Fifth Wheel Hitch For A 1997 Ford F-350 Utility Bed Truck
Question:
We just purchased from you 3 items for truck, and we want to be able to buy fix up, and sell 5th wheel trailer and campers to support our MInistry. So there is no single offset from the underside of the trailer to the bottom of its pin box to measure for our needs. Assuming that the pin boxes are about as close up under the trailer bedroom floor as is usual, and that is what we need to get put togeather. From you we have just bought and used: 1 A class V Curt receiver hitch installed. 2 A BandW turnball gooseneck assembly installed 3 A useless so far for the 97 utility bed F350 gooseneck to 5th wheel Companion hitch, that only goes about 11inch up from the bed. Used twice in a borrowed regular bed PU. So....to get 5inch clearance min.?...what can be done? It seems that pin boxes are all about 12inch down from the trailer, and the highest 5th wheel hitch that goes over our installed goose neck turnover ball assembly is 18 inches. That makes 30inch of the 32inch to get 5inch Clearance. Can the Companion hitch we have be adapted 20? F350 Utility bed truck 27 deck to top of side boxes.

Based on the 11" B&W Hitch you were talking about I'm assuming you got the B&W Companion Flatbed Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # BWRVK3050. If so, this was meant for flat bed trucks without bed rails and will give you give clearance issues when using it in a normal truck.
Depending on the length of your bed you would want the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W for a long bed and the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3400-5W for a short bed to improve your turning clearance.
The # BWRVK3500-5W has an adjustable height of 16-1/4" - 18-1/4" and the # BWRVK3400-5W has an adjustable height of 17" - 19".
As for making up the rest of the height difference you can "flip" the axles on the trailer if you have double-eye leaf springs in the underslung position. You can use an over-under conversion kit like # K71-384-00 (for 2-3/8" axles) or # K71-385-00 (for 3" axles). These kits include everything you need, including spring seats, nuts, U-bolts, and tie plates.
