Should Load C Tires be Upgraded to Load D Tires on a Trailer Loaded to 1600 Pounds?

Question:

Im looking to buy an upgraded radial tire and wheel from you guys. Looking to upgrade my 175/80D/13 Bias tire on my Carry On utility trailer, towing a 04 Harley Electra glide motorcycle, weighing approx. 800 pounds at high way speeds for 12 hours at a time. Im considering the Kenda 175/80r/13 with galvanized wheel. I see its load range D as I currently have load range C. From what I understand the LR D rating means higher PSI and Load but a harsher ride. I am only towing approx. 1400-1600 pounds total between trailer and motorcycle. Should I consider a LR C tire instead of the Kenda or can I simply run the Kenda LR C tire at a lower PSI for a softer ride, as long as I maintain C tire psi recommendations

Helpful Expert Reply:

With your loaded trailer weighing around 1,400 to 1,600 pounds, I would actually run the Kenda Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM31994 at the 65 psi rating. This is due to the max capacity of the tire being 1,610 pounds. This also has an M speed rating, meaning it is rated up to 81 miles per hour. With all this being said, I highly recommend going with the # AM31994.
