Flat Towing Equipment Recommended for 1995 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
Im new to the entire motorhoming scene. I would like to tow my 95 Jeep Wrangler behind my FR3 motorhome. What all do i need bar, plate, brake accessories, lights, etc....., what brands for each piece do you recommend, and what issues can i expect from an install perspective as well as during actual towing? Ive considered a car trailer, a car dolly, and 4 wheels down...... the latter being the leading candidate at the moment. Have i made the right decision in my preferred towing approach? Thanks

From a convenience standpoint, towing your Wrangler 4 wheels down is definitely the way to go versus trailering or using a tow dolly. Storing a dolly or trailer at a cramped campsite is difficult, sometimes impossible so if the 4 wheels down option exists for the given vehicle (which it does in your case) it's absolutely the option I'd recommend you go with.
For base plates, I really like the Blue Ox # BX1137 base plate kit which features removable drawbars. Blue Ox does a great job engineering their base plate kits, they're typically easy to install and in all cases very easy to use.
For a tow bar, the Blue Ox Alpha 2, part # BX7380 is what I'd go with. This is a non-binding, self centering tow bar that's easy to hook up and detach even if you're not on perfectly flat pavement and the vehicle isn't perfectly lined up behind the motorhome. When not in use, the tow bar can be folded up flat against the rear of the motorhome, instead of folding up against the hood of the Jeep like the # BX4330 which is preferable in my opinion, unless you don't mind driving around with a tow bar folded up against the grill of the Jeep.
For taillight wiring, I'd recommend the Roadmaster Diode System, part # RM-15267. For a braking system, I prefer a portable system like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. The system only takes minutes to set up, and by going this route you'll avoid the expensive and lengthy install of a permanently installed system. If you change vehicles in the future, the Patriot III can easily be moved to a different vehicle. You'll also need the # RM-88400 relay kit.
Finally, If the 17 inch installed height of the base plates (assuming stock tire size at factory ride height) is more than 3 inches higher or lower than the hitch height on your motorhome, you'll need a high/low adapter to bring it within that range. I'll link to an article that shows how to take that measurement, along with a link to the adapters we offer.
