Recommended Product to Improve Ride Quality of 11,000 lb Horse Trailer
Question:
I am looking for a trailer hitch that is absorbing shocls to make the ride smoother for my horses. This hitch was recommended to me but im wondering if its sufficient for a trailer: fully loaded 9900lbs and 1450lbs payload. I m curious what this weights as well as if its compatible with the anderson sway control. Im new to towing but is there anything else i need to safely to the horse trailer? Thanks so much!

If you're using the Andersen weight distribution hitch with the chains, it wouldn't work well with the Gen-Y # 325-GH-1024 ball mount you'd looked at as it would have more effect on the ride of the tow vehicle and minimal effect on the ride of the trailer itself. Plus, Andersen couldn't say if their weight distribution system was compatible with the Gen-Y hitch as they haven't been tested together.
I'd concentrate on the suspension of the trailer itself. To improve the ride of the trailer, I'd recommend the SumoSprings Trailer Helper springs which mount between the leaf spring pack and the trailer frame. The SumoSprings helper springs will cushion the ride of your horse trailer, and will also help reduce body roll and sway.
For a trailer weighing what you describe, I'd recommend # SS26MV which is for 5-8K overslung axles (leaf spring pack sits atop axle). For a tandem axle trailer, you'll need 2 kits.
For underslung axles where the leas spring pack sits under the axle, use # SS33HR. You'll need 2 kits for a tandem axle trailer.
