Mounting A Thule Roof Rack To 2011 Subaru Outback With Factory Crossbars

Question:

I purchased a Thule Hullavator TH898 for my 2011 Subaru Outback, and based on the etrailer.com recommendation I also purchase the TH 710401 Raised Rail system and the TH 711420 wingbars. I noted in the installation instructions the raised rail mounts need to be a minimum of 27 ½ inches apart. The way the 2011 Outback rail is constructed will only allow for about 22 inches of separation center to center. Do I need to look at some other mounting rail system for the Hullavator? Thanks for your prompt response.

At first glance your roof rack appears to only take a raised rail foot pack, but that is not your only option. Your 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon actually has fixed points built into the raised rails. The foot pack that works with those fixed points is the Rapid Podium Feet for Thule Crossbars - Fixed Point - Qty 4. part # TH460R. It attaches to a fit kit specifically designed to fit your 20011 Subaru Outback Wagon. The Fit Kit for Thule Podium-Style Roof Rack Feet- 3068, part # THKIT3068 is that fit kit. With this setup your crossbars will be a fixed distance apart of 30". You can use your existing Thule EVO WingBars with this setup. Now you will be able to attach your Thule Hullavator.

I have included product description links, a video review link, and a picture of rack with the foot installed at the fixed point.
