Does Weight Distribution System Need Readjustment When Running Empty Dump Trailer

Question:

I tow a 12ft tandem dump trailer with my RAM .. will the difference between empty , 3000 lbs with TW of 500lbs and loaded 11,000- 12,000 lbs with TW of 1500lbs required constant readjusting of the weight bars on this WD Hitch ? or can I pull it empty at adjustment for full load.. sway is not an issue on this trailer but I pull loads 3-4 times in a day.. 25 miles

Because we don't offer a system that would cover a tongue weight range from 500-1500 lbs, I'd recommend choosing a system set up for when the trailer is fully loaded, as the empty tongue weight of the dump trailer isn't likely to cause much in the way of rear end sag on your truck.

The Curt # C17501 TruTrack you'd looked which is rated for up to 1500 lbs of tongue weight would be a good choice. When you're running the trailer empty, it won't hurt anything to leave the bars in place, and there will be no need to readjust things, but you might have a bit of a rough ride. You could always remove the bars when running empty if you wish.

I've linked to a product description video for the Curt # C17501 TruTrack weight distribution system.
